Education
Throughout his years at school, Nikola Tesla received outstanding marks, and impressed many, if not all, of his teachers. He had the unique ability to complete very complicated problems and equations entirely in his head, which led many to believe he must be cheating in some way or that he was simply genius. Tesla graduated from his secondary school as the star student, and he did it in 3 years, instead of the usual 4. After he finished high school though, he was stricken with cholera and was extremely sick, often on the verge of death. His father, desperate for Nikola to pull through, promised that he would be sent to the best engineering university they could find if he just recovered. Then in 1875 as if motivated by his father's words, Tesla's condition improved, and then just as his father promised, he entered into the university, Austrian Polytechnic in Styria, Austria. There during his first year, he received 100% in all his courses and took and passed 9 exams, when only 5 were required. His second year progressed in a similar fashion, but near the end of it, Tesla developed an addiction to gambling and threw away all of his tuition money and savings to feed his urges. He managed to overcome the addiction after winning back what he'd lost, but not in time to prepare himself for his third year exams, and was unprepared when the time came. He wasn't able to write them, and dropped out of the university soon after, bringing an end to his education through school. However, this wasn't the end of his learning, as he taught himself nearly as much through experimentation, as he was taught in school.
